Hinkley Point C – Somerset Supplier Events Programme
Somerset Events
The Somerset Chamber of Commerce is coordinating an event programme to support businesses interested in winning contracts at Hinkley. These events are being delivered with the help of South West Manufacturing Advisory Service, Business Link, Bridgwater and West Somerset Community Colleges and EDF Energy.
The programme of events is planned to meet a range of needs for the business community:
1. Awareness Events – half day seminars
These events aim to raise awareness about the proposed nuclear new build in Somerset by considering various elements of the project and highlighting the opportunities to businesses with the relevant capabilities. Two large events held in 2010 by EDF Energy that provided an overview of the whole project will be followed up in 2011 by sector specific events addressing various elements of the proposed build.
2. Making the Leap Events – half day seminars
Helping the broad range of Somerset’s businesses to understand the range of demands that a very large civil engineering project will require – including accreditation requirements, tendering for contracts, creating winning partnerships and tips on presentation when businesses have the chance to impress potential clients. These events are open to all businesses, but priority is given to those located in Somerset.
4. Quality and Skills Workshops – half day
Small, tightly focused technical workshops to highlight the steps necessary to effectively engage in and meeting standards expected in quality, safety, project and productivity management. These workshops are designed to cater for specific industry sectors and are by invitation.
5. Meet the Buyer Events – full day
Meet the buyer events are facilitated days giving local businesses the opportunity to engage directly with main contractors. These events are by invitation and will focus specifically on the requirements of main contractors which are then matched with local business capability. Appointments are arranged through the Somerset Chamber of Commerce for those businesses registered on the Hinkley C Supply Chain Portal.
In addition to the above the Chamber will continue to offer events for specific sectors to raise awareness of the opportunities that the Hinkley C development will offer.
