Below is the supply chain map issued by EDF Energy, which sets out the landscape so that Somerset businesses can effectively target and engage with contractors who operate at the relevant tier for their capability.
It is expected that 160 main contracts will be let to Tier 1 level companies over the course of the construction period for Hinkley Point C. At this tier, the values of these contracts will range from tens of millions to over a billion pounds each. Each Tier 1 contractor will then need to source Tier 2 contractors from the UK and internationally and this process will continue down the supply chain, thereby reaching businesses of all sizes.
The Hinkley Supply Chain Team is working hard to ensure that Tier 1 contractors are aware of local capability registered on www.hinkleysupplychain.co.uk and is issuing details of companies when requested. As the project momentum starts to build this supplier matching service will be extended to Tier 2 and 3 companies. We also recommend that Somerset suppliers deliver their own business development action plans – for example, by identifying and building relationships with prospective Tier 1, 2 and 3 contractors who may be successful in the bidding process.
Each Somerset business knows their sector well and can start to consider which national, regional and local contractors may be worth approaching to make them aware of the capability offered.
An event planned for 17 November 2011 will help to inform potential local suppliers further on the procurement landscape and will provide some useful business development tips. Please see our events calendar for further information (link).
