Balfour Beatty Bailey

Electrical cabling and equipment installation
Balfour Beatty Bailey was formed five years ago, in 2010, out of a shared vision by both Balfour Beatty and NG Bailey to support the UK’s new nuclear build programme.
Both companies have a long history of working at the heart of the nuclear industry having contributed to the creation of the world’s first full-scale nuclear power station at Calder Hall in Cumberland in 1956 and thirty years later at Sizewell B. Since then both have remained strong players in the sector and are active in a number of nuclear projects today.
As a joint venture partnership, Balfour Beatty Bailey is driven by safety – adopting industry leading standards to minimise and eliminate risk. It encourages ‘ownership’ of its work by involving employees, subcontractors and partners in developing, promoting and sustaining a positive health and safety culture – under its ‘Zero Harm’ approach.
Having been appointed as preferred bidder for the proposed Hinkley Point C power station’s electrical package, Balfour Beatty Bailey’s work will be delivered across both reactors providing the critical infrastructure that will power the station and its operations. It will include the design and installation of circa 76,000 cables totalling over 3,000km in length; over 180km of cable containment support systems; fire and environmental sealing; design and installation of earthing systems, and specialist packages associated with data acquisition and plant control.
Balfour Beatty Bailey’s involvement in this ground-breaking project will see the creation of 1,000 jobs with a significant proportion of the new workforce recruited locally. 60 local apprenticeships will also be up for grabs and, training commitments and partnerships, will be forged with local schools and colleges.
