Bouygues wins £35m contract to build training centre and warehouse at Hinkley Point C

August 15, 2018

The contract, won by Bouygues UK, marks the first phase of ancillary buildings at Hinkley Point C (HPC). The anticipated construction of the new Simulator Training Centre and HHA Warehouse will commence later this year with completion expected towards the end of 2020.

The new centre will provide EDF Energy with a training site for nuclear operatives to control and maintain their two EPR reactors, and will house the control room training simulator along with the IT equipment required to support this facility.

During the construction phase of the EPRs, their primary circuit components will be stored, prepared and assembled at the new HHA Warehouse. After this phase, the building will be used as a warehouse and workshop for the duration of the nuclear power station’s life.

The Bouygues Construction Group have now won 3 contracts at Hinkley Point C. In 2017, in joint venture with Laing O’Rourke, Bouygues Travaux Publics won the contract for the construction of the buildings that will house the two EPR nuclear reactors; and in the same year Bouygues Energies & Services won the contract to design and build the backup plant.
