Mathias & Sons Ltd is a fourth-generation, family-owned SME established in 1952 and based in Avonmouth. Employing 55 people, we specialise in innovative, sustainable and inclusive workwear and PPE solutions for major organisations across the UK.
Since 2018 we have proudly supported HPC, helping protect the workforce on one of Europe’s largest construction projects. Through this partnership, we developed a deep understanding of the complex challenges associated with sourcing and distributing PPE to a new nuclear construction site.
What we deliver at HPC
At HPC we introduced practical, sustainability-led solutions to improve PPE access, compliance and waste management:
- Automated PPE vending and click-and-collect lockers
- “Self-ordering” systems improving stock control and logistics
- Circular hi-visibility clothing designed for full UK recyclability
- A pioneering PPE recycling scheme with HMP Five Wells
Success story – from HPC to Sizewell C Our experience at HPC shaped the PPE strategy for Sizewell C. In partnership with Portable Space Ltd, we formed Suffolk Safety Solutions Ltd and were formally awarded the Sizewell C project-wide PPE contract in January 2026.
The contract is expected to create 26 local jobs and apprenticeships, deliver ~£70m in project savings, and avoid 3,000+ tonnes of CO₂e through circular PPE solutions.
