Bridgwater firm hopes HPC contract will be the first of many

With over 30 years of development and experience, Bridgwater-based engineering services company Elecsis Limited will be working with Veolia Water Technologies on Hinkley Point C’s (HPC) raw water storage and water demineralisation control buildings.

“We hope this will be one of many contracts as the project develops and we can show the quality and technical expertise of Somerset companies,” said Chris Pratt, Chairman and Managing Director of Elecsis.

“I was invited to sit on the HPC steering committee for quite a number of years so I am very pleased to win our first contract for the project, which I hope will be one of a number once the build reaches the point where our type of products are required,” he said.

Elecsis designs, manufactures and installs medium and low voltage electrical switchboards, fully type-tested for arc containment, seismic, shock and vibration, plus sub-distribution equipment, motor control centres, process control and PLC (programmable logic controller) cabinets.

The company has previously won multi-million Pound contracts to manufacture electrical distribution switchboards and motor control equipment worldwide and has established itself as one of the UK’s leading providers of bespoke electrical control and power distribution solutions.

Using in-house facilities, Elecsis undertakes a wide variety of contracts, from single-disciplinary works to complete turnkey multi-disciplinary packages with clients covering all sectors from aerospace to waste-to-energy. Elecsis has also supplied the Ministry of Defence with equipment and is an approved installer for LUL (London Underground).

Chris said: “Our product range is quite unique in the UK as we not only manufacture medium and low voltage products for all sectors including commercial, MoD, nuclear and marine but our capabilities cover full type testing for arc containment, shock, vibration and EMC up to 6300A 85kA.

“We have a wealth of experience acquired over many years and can provide a complete solution incorporating each stage of a project, from initial conceptual design and manufacture to site installation and maintenance.”

Elecsis has previously manufactured for both Hinkley Point A and B stations, as well as Magnox and BAE Nuclear.

By working with the Hinkley Supply Chain Team, Chris was able to keep up-to-date with all the latest contract opportunities at Hinkley Point C: “HPC is a huge project, so having the Hinkley Supply Chain indicating potential contracts and also suggesting suitable suppliers to the Tier 1s is of great assistance.

“The supply chain team has always kept us informed when potential contracts have come on-line, as the project evolves we hope there will be more opportunities for our expertise.
