Extremely proud, to be part of the construction of a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK

A family-owned Somerset business is now one of just five specialist contractors providing access scaffolds, temporary roofs and protection structures at Hinkley Point C.

SRK Scaffolding was set up in 2000 and was originally based on the outskirts of Taunton, before relocating to the firm’s current headquarters in Wellington,

It is now one of the South West’s largest privately-owned scaffolding contractors and predominately works with COMA at site, while also supporting other smaller contractors working on the project.

Although SRK Scaffolding has a wealth of experience working with Network Rail, The National Trust, HM Prison Service, Rolls Royce and major house builders, working on a nuclear site has brought new challenges for the team.

But the expertise of their management and operational teams have seen them successfully secure contracts at HPC which, in turn, has enabled SRK Scaffolding to increase its own workforce and invest in an apprenticeship programme.

Robert Trott, Managing Director, said HPC had always had a focus on the use of local contractors so to be one of five nominated scaffolding contractors at site was very rewarding.

“We are extremely proud, as a local contractor, to be part of the construction of the first of a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK aiming to reduce carbon emissions for future generations,” said Mr Trott.

SRK Scaffolding has received support on its journey to winning work on site through the Hinkley Supply Chain’s Project Lead, Natalie Beacham, and, prior to lockdown, attending the supply chain’s networking events, management courses and working with others on the project.

The company’s project surveyor, Andrew Peake, said: “SRK Scaffolding would recommend using the Hinkley Supply Chain Team who are easily contactable, provide back-up and are able to resolve issues.”

From its small beginning in Bathpool, today the company covers the whole of the South West and South of England and has an extensive stock of equipment, a large fleet of vans and HGVs, together with a skilled, directly employed workforce.

Mr Trott added: “What started as a small local business has evolved and thrived, consistently gaining momentum thanks to dedication, skill and investment. SRK Scaffolding is now one of the largest privately-owned scaffolding companies in the South West.

“We work with some of the largest and most prestigious names within their field, forging new and lasting partnerships, supporting them in the delivery of high-profile projects.

“We supply, erect and dismantle access systems and solutions to the best in the construction industry.

“But what sets SRK apart is the set of values that lie at the core of everything we do. The sum of these parts make for a pretty special service provider, a provider you can trust.”

These values include excellence, reliability, safety, trust and experience and a commitment to customer satisfaction.
